Sorry for the late response.
Thanks for the complement. Such complements make gardening a worthwhile joy!
Regarding lily spacing - Lilies are usually spaced around the suggested inches apart, most are in groupings of 3 to 5, though there are a couple of 10's and singles too.
They are usually situated right next to whatever bulb or perennial is already there. They're usually bought more than one variety at a time (as I know you now know) and when so, often end up planted next to other lilies making some lily islands out there (at least 6 such isles). Lilies in my garden are the most prevalent plant, numbering somewhere around a 100 (there were 125 different varieties in 2011). I think my plant list has 144 lilies noted. As a result most summer garden panoramic pics have lilies a/o lily isles featured.
Occasionally I have cleared out relatively large areas and purposefully planted just lilies therein.

We have excellent soil here, you should to if the glaciers made it as far as your location. There's a place maybe 50 miles NE of me that is said to have some of the very very best soil in the world, at least agronomicly speaking.
The only lilies I had persistent problems with are the martagon lilies, foiled at every attempt.
@Nhra_20 It will be interesting to see how your and dave's lily gardens evolve. I'm kind of looking forward to this as well. Lilies captured my heart in the middle of the 1980's and she's not let go since.
Nothing that's been done can ever be changed.
