Rob.. Sad to see this thread started again in January.. My guess is your probably having issues from all the rain, How deep are the bulbs planted ? with the amount of rain you have had they may be deeper than when you planted them because of erosion or dirt moving from heavy rain this will bring on rot fast.. wouldn't think botyrtis would be prevalent in your area it is Known as the ice fungus seems to hit us through winter months as the ground freezes and thaws..

I never had any luck putting comet on the plants it made for a lot of work and I felt better thinking I was helping but after another heavy rain the bulbs were soft all over again and I realized was wasting my time. The only thing that worked for me was cutting a slot out of the bulb with a pocket knife it lets air circulate and you should be able to save side growth depending on how far along it is.

If there planted in new soil have it soil tested for 15 to 20 bucks you will get a pretty good break down of what is in your soil if you added compost its possible the nitrogen levels will be out of whack..
The next step would be to dig a couple bulbs that is affected and send it to a local university they will diagnose it for a small fee and then you will know for sure what you got.. Good Luck sorry to here about problems so early..
