I use Miracle Gro potting soil (not the moisture control type) for starting my seeds, without any problem; I always try to buy bags that have been stored indoors (and thus are much dryer and lighter) rather than the ones that are left out in the rain. And I've learned to always use a new bag for seed starting because I have had some problems with opened bags that had been sitting around in my greenhouse for a while. I generally buy it at Walmart; one time they were out of MG so I picked up a big bag of Sam's potting soil, and for whatever reason did not have very good luck with my seeds that time. Might have been the potting soil, or might have been some other factors. Shrug!
