Aechmea blanchetiana do very well in full sun, I have one that was gifted to me, it has colored up nice in the bright sun. From green, to yellow and now orange with pink hues....very much a stand out in the garden. They can freeze, so needs protection. Bromeliads do love humidity, but if they can be grown inside with misting, I imagine you can do the same outside in pool area.

Here is a list of full sun bromeliads, might help.
