A friend who is a clinical psychiatrist came up with this list some years ago and shared it with me. It's been very helpful to me and I have shared it on here a few times. Maybe a good time to post it again. Number 5 is the one I think that we need the most.
Dr. Jim’s 10 ways to improve your life
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. These include age...weight and height. Let your Dr. worry about them. That's why you pay him.
2. Keep only cheerful friends. Negative people bring you down.
3. Keep learning. Never let the brain idle. An idle mind is the devil's workshop and the devil's name is Alzheimer's.
4. Enjoy the simple things. But, you must learn to recognize them when they come your way.
5. Laugh often....long and hard. Laugh until you gasp for breath
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve and move on. The only person we are with our entire lives is our self. Be Alive while you're alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love. Be it family, friends, hobbies, pets, music...whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health. If it is good...preserve it. If it's
unstable...improve it. If it's beyond what you can improve...get help.
9. Never, ever, take a guilt trip.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them....at every opportunity.
Remember: our life is not measured by the number of breaths we take...but by the moments that leave us breathless.
Always return to #5!
