Chickens are easy and fun. If you start with chicks, it will take about 5 months before they begin to lay eggs. All you will need to provide your hens is feed, water, and a dry place to live that is protected from predators. It sounds as if you already have the needed housing. Chicks need to be raised in a "brooder" which is just a safe confined area that can be kept at a constant temperature (90 degrees for chicks a week old or less and 5 degrees cooler each week to a minimum of 70.)
