Almost the same routine that you'd use to get pix of fireworks. Camera on tripod, remote switch. AF off, focus on infinity, A/V mode set to f/8, ISO 800, shutter speed to B (bulb.) AWB. Guess when there will be some action and hold down switch with fingers crossed. The second the bolt is done let go of the switch. One bolt per shot usually. If after about 20 seconds there is nothing, start over. Longer than 20 sec. you will get light grey not black skies. Need a place with dark skies, no street lights, houses, cars. Ideal would be no wind or rain. A matter of luck really. Some places get lots of lightening, some little. I think it is Jamaica where they get lightening everyday. I was out doing all this and got many, many great shots of a storm in the distance. Suddenly there was some right over my head. I cheated and took the camera off the tripod and hand held it (a no-no) so things are not as sharp as they could have been. Gene
