Well I ran over to Shelburne Falls and got into my house and the basement is damp but not flooded. Hurray! My tenant is back from the shelter. The water is on and her phone works but now we are waiting for electricity to be restored. Most of the houses in the neighborhood have it, but the lines were cut to two houses, mine and next door. It turned out there were lines that ran across the river and when the river was very high, a log grabbed hold of the wires and dragged them downstream pulling the telephone pole with it. That's why the lines were down. very relieved to see no damage. I went downtown and spoke with lots of friends and neighbors; everyone had a story to tell. It seemed therapeutic for us all. My clients from VT cancelled and told us about problems in VT. I91 is still closed so everyone going north has to go through Greenfield which is filled with traffic today. I start my job on Wed instead of Tuesday so I moved all the orchids back out today. Found some buds in the process!!
