my first bad encounter with cacti as a child was an Opuntia microdasys. It was on a rack at the store, and looked soft so I reached out to touch it aaaand yep 
I'll be separating them into their own pots then. The pads are small and close together right now but it looks and sounds like if I leave them the way they are, they will be too crowded once they have the root room.
