I grew up in Pittsburgh where halushki was a food staple. Though my family was German, Pgh. had a lot of Polish and other eastern European people, so my Mom learned to cook some of that type of food. Everyone did. There are lots of versions, though my Mom always only used fried cabbage (well done, fried slowly to light tan color, not brown), and bowtie noodles, with lots of butter and salt.
