Carol, to be honest, putting your state or city in the location field is not as much information as people regularly give out online (social media, etc.). Many websites even trace your IP address to work out roughly where you are. People don't seem to realise how much information they share, especially when many sites make it opt-out (i.e. if you're signed into Google/Gmail and haven't changed the default preferences, Google records all your web searches).
