The bloom of your Scarlet Star (Guzmania lingulata) is probably just getting to the point of fading and dying. Guzmania plants slowly die after producing blooms but "pups" (babies) will form at the base of the mother plant. Once the pups get to about 1/3 the size of the mother plant, they can be removed and potted up to grow on to adulthood.
