Well Laelia purpurata has been reclassified by some taxonomy geeks as Cattleya purpurata. When that species with its 8 inch flowers is used as a parent over Cattleya bowringiana in "maikai", the flowers will be larger. Bowringiana has 3 1/2 flowers. Resulting hybrid flowers are often close to the size of the average of the two parents.
Richard Mueller supplies the spots and starry shape.
Brassavola nodosa, in the background of both, imparts more new growths, more blooms and night time fragrance. It produces spots in the lips of its progeny as well. Major drawback=reduced flower size.
Thank you very much for the parents. It is a neat hybrid. I tip my hat to you.
