I think there are many plants where the expensive commercial hybrid varieties are mostly seed-sterile as well as "won't come TRUE from seed".

I wonder if they deliberately include seed sterility in their breeding goals, to keep the seed price up.

There are Monsanto food crops with a deliberately introduced 'sterility gene'. I think opponents call it the "terminator gene" because it makes it almost impossible to save your own seeds.

US laws seem to protect the ability of companies to keep their profits high, not the ability of poor farmers to feed their children. I guess Monsanto has better lawyers and lobbyists than the poor.

We have the best Congresspeople and Senators that Big Money can buy.
