I bought a short handled cobrahead based on reviews here, but am finding I don't use it very often. It seems like kind of a cross between my straight soil knife (aka hori hori) and my curved hand plow (aka ho-mi), both old friends of mine. Perhaps I just haven't figured out when to use the cobra. It's still in my tool bucket so not a total fail yet.
Another tool I bought this year is a long handled hula hoe. I find that useful for weeding before the weeds have really dug in, but when I have a pretty thick colony, I'm back on hands and knees with my hand tools.
My current favorite tool is an anti-fatigue foam kitchen mat that is perhaps 2' x 3' and 1/2" thick or so. I use this in place of small garden kneeling pads and it gives me much more room to move around to reach things and still have comfort for my knees. I throw it on the ground on the edge of a bed, put my bucket of tools on one side of the pad, and my weed bucket on the other. When I've cleaned that area, it is good for me to stand up, stretch, empty the weeds, and toss the pad for another 'session.' At my age/arthritis it is good for me to change positions often. It also allows me to work in the garden when the grass is damp or wet.
