Not a perfect solution, but I find that birds help get rid of many types of bugs, not all, but some. I put out just enough bird feed to bring them in for entertainment, once the feeds gone they usually stay around for awhile looking for other things to eat.
Also for slugs try beer traps or seaweed as a deterrent.
