Your home grown chicken eggs are about a month fresher than supermarket eggs and will keep for weeks unrefrigerated if you don't wash them. A bad egg will float in water, an older egg may half-float as its air chamber gets bigger. Hens may keep laying eggs for a week or more before they start to sit on their clutch. That way the eggs will hatch at about the same time. The older ones are clearly still good.
