I just let aerial roots of my Phals go anywhere they like. They are happy that way, part of their epiphytic nature. I actually like seeing them do that, reassures me plant is alive and okay. I just gently water the roots to soften it a bit and loop it back on top of the media if it is getting too out of control. My Phals containers are hanging, so it is not difficult to let the roots go anywhere it likes.
