Marilynne, kind of presumptuous of me to explain Canadian anything when there are several Canadians here. You guys should step in and shut me up or I'll be just another American stereotype, overbearing and pushy.
I think I told you guys that I often threaten to 'go American' on some of the bureaucrats around here. My Mexican friends think it is funny for me to say it but do not want me to do it. All it means is I want to yell and make a scene, but that is just not done.
We finally were in the the rain path last night, heavy downpour for about an hour and a half and then it moved on. Good news is that I don't have to water now and it filled the pond but we didn't have to pump it down plus the streets drained quickly enough that it didn't flood. Kind of a perfect amount of rain.
My Juan de Noche is full of blooms. It is a Brunfelsia nitida with about a dozen different names in English and Spanish. Cuban Raintree, Lady of the Night, Juan de Noche are the most common. It's difficult because the english name Lady of the Night is also the name in Spanish for a much different plant, Dama de la Noche. Oh, and that one is also called Galan de Noche. I get the importance of Latin names now, and I didn't always.
Anyway I could smell it in my bedroom last night and went out on the roof garden to 'follow my nose'. Today when I took this picture it was smell-less.
