I know you can grow them in large pots. Also know from experience that they can take a very light frost. But I would guess that in PA they wouldn't make it outdoors thru a winter. Crinums grow wild in swamps around Houston.

But wait! Just re-read your original post and saw that they've been growing for 25 years. Maybe just copy their environment.
