Hi Jai,

I use 2/3-inch wide green One-Wrap Garden Ties Velcro. They don't sell that width, so I buy the 2-inch wide rolls and cut short pieces (6 to 8 inch lengths) into one-thirds. I write on the Velcro with Fine Point Sharpie black markers. They are now available in an ultra-permanent form, but I have never had a fading problem with the older black Sharpies. I roll an inch or so of the Velcro around either a stem or the top wire of one of my protective zinnia cages (shown).

The green color of the Velcro is a fairly good match to the usual green shade of zinnias. I write just a code on the Velcro label and keep a separate looseleaf journal with a page devoted to information about each code. Some garden centers stock it to brace young trees, but for convenience I purchase mine from Amazon.

The Velcro has proved to be quite durable in outdoor conditions.

I tip my hat to you.
