The best fall vegetable garden I ever had originated from marked down broccoli plants. Browsing a private nursery late one summer I saw a flat of small broccoli plants that had been marked down to about .25 a plant. I asked an older gentleman ( employee/owner) for a price for the whole flat and got them for about .05 per plant. It had been a hot Georgia summer that year.

I only had a small 10 x 10 raised bed garden so I pulled up tired summer plants and inserted the tired looking broccoli plants. After the main head formed pretty good I cut them off and many new small heads formed on the plant branch forks. These were very tender when harvested after Thanksgiving.

A freezing rain storm motivated my final harvest.
