I was using nice metal markers for the Iris at first but then I had quite a few end up being noids. I tried removing the name from the tag with an SOS pad but it ruins the metal and makes the next name I write on it hard to read, plus it seems to fade off quick. So now I am using my old cheapskate trick I learned from growing tons of seedlings and winter sowing. I cut up old blinds and write on them with pencil. Last way longer than the purchased plastic labels with "fade resistant" pens. I use vertical blinds and when the kids are rough they break and need to be replaced so I just use the broken ones. I make them long enough to stick in the ground and still have the name showing on the top. Then when I know the Iris is the right one and doesn't rot away after only one winter I will use the nice metal ones instead.

I really like the metal ones in the link. I want to find some nice sturdy ones. I had a different type http://www.everlastlabel.com/ on my Daylilies for a few years and my husband destroyed half of them with the weed whacker. Rolling my eyes.

Adding - Should say weed whacker resistant rather than sturdy because that is what I meant!! lol
