For me, birdwatching is peaceful. I can sit and watch and listen to the birds for hours! I remember the first time I saw a hawk take a dove. I was a bit rattled but then thought awhile and realized there is a time, a season, a reason ... hawks are God's creatures too and must feed themselves and their babies. It's always a little sad when I see it but not as sad as when I see a free roaming cat kill a songbird. I hope the following photo doesn't offend anyone, this is a beautiful juvenile Cooper's Hawk that took a little dove in my backyard a couple of years ago:
