Jan - Chad Harris has a great article on the Mt. Pleasant website about growing JI's in pots. Well worth the read. In pots you can more easily regulate their water. I believe some people also plant them in kiddie pools or in beds lined with plastic so they can keep the soil moist. Mulching is also important.

And as Daphne said, yes they like acidic soil. And as I have said before, never use bone meal as it will kill them.
