Thanks Dave and Lin! The leaves sure do like Alocasia macrorhizos, in the Google link I even saw some pictures with trunks, the only thing that makes me doubt is that the trunks of the ones in the botanical garden were really very thick and I read that:
In tropical conditions it forms a of trunk 10 cm (4″) in diameter and about 2 m (6′) high. In culture, it is rarely more than 2 m (6′) high.
