It's completely free AND open source.

When it's running, you hit the "print screen button" and then select the area that you want to shoot - and then save it (lots of options).

Quick, painless, and easy...

I'm very, very, very reluctant to recommend programs to people - but this one is clean, has a small footprint, and does exactly what you think it should - it's fantastic.

Way easier than anything described here - "print screen", select area, save - boom, done!
