Oh, I never meant to suggest that there was only one way of doing things. Obviously if you are getting flowers, you are doing something right! So many people have a hard time getting a Christmas Cactus to rebloom, that I just thought I'd mention that it's the long night, short day treatment that is the main trigger for bloom formation.
