Just a little tip about making garden paths. I hate weeds, and the fewer I have to worry about, the better. So here is what I do: I go to a building supply center, and most store their 4' long fibreglass/asphalt roofing shingles out in their yard. There are always a lot of seconds, miss matches, returns, etc. Here I can buy as many as I want usually, for .50 cents each. In the US probably cheaper. They are 4' long by about 14" wide. I take them home, lay them out in whatever width I want, cut them with tin shears if I need curves, lay them down, and cover them with about 1" of what we call "Crusher Dust" here, (the particles collected from a granite rock crushing operation). They are a beautiful light grey when dry! Note, I have also used a lot in the same fashion around raised beds so I have 14" to push the lawn mower with a clean edge. PS. I also have them throughout a number of my rose beds. Nothing can grow through them in my lifetime.
