I love those, Mike; those types of early showy primulas (Polyanthus-type) really are among my favourite perennials.
Superficially, the yellow one looks a bit like the wild primroses we picked as kids in England. (Suspect you're not supposed to do that now). Still it has a deeper colour, and as you indicate, must have come from a seed strain such as the Danova Series. Mind you that probably's not saying much; there's even a pink wild subspecies (not a garden escapee) growing in the wild there.
We have the colour of the top one in some of our Crescendo Series primula, but they have the cowslip flower stalks. Am sure that colour's present in many of the seed strains.
