Bonehead said:Suz, I am interested in your formula for skeeter treatment. I assume you add the essential oils to a carrier oil, then perhaps spray or rub on? I've experimented with various moisturizing oils and have kind of settled into about 20 drops of essential oils per ounce of carrier oil. Anything that goes on my skin includes helichrysum (for sun protection) and frankincense (which I've read is good for just about everything). From there, I just mix/match depending on the intended use, and try to remember to keep track of my various formulas and how my skin reacts to them.

As long as the dilution rate is safe, and the oils used are not know for dermal issues, sensatizations, contraindications, ( reatction to say medications like blood thinners, Blood pressure issues, pregnant, nursing, maybe they are prone to seizures,,, things like that) etc, that is great. Allergies are common with oils, and that is another thing to keep in mind. As for my recipes, I start with the a limited amount of oils to be sure its simplistic. Like I said earlier, Catnip is one of the key ingredients. Make sure it has a good percentage of Nepetalactone when you are looking at the GCMS. PT have current GCMS' available, you can read the constituents and make sure what you need is in the bottle you purchase. Here is an example. https://www.planttherapy.com/t.... Geranium, Lemon eucalyptus, peppermint (dermal limits observed), Lavender are just some of the oils you can use. A carrier of water with glycerine as an emulsifier is what I use; it gets used up fast enough around here to where I dont worry about bacteria due to the water. If I think it will be more than 2 weeks in the bottle, I use Optiphen as a preservative. Just shake well before use, keep out of eyes, mucous areas, open cuts, etc.... Spraying it on clothing is beneficial as well, and sometimes does the trick. If you have read through this and are still interested, let me know.....
