When I had the GE I used the same thing as you. They provided a special razor. I haven't had any scratches. Sometimes after it cools I take a wet dish rag and lay it on the area to soak before cleaning. But to really get it shiny and clean I use my Norwex purple window rag. They are pricey but awesome and last forever.
