I am assuming that this acquisition was recent? Azaleas in bloom now in Wisconsin is out of season. I am wondering if it was forced into blooming early and out of season.
Forcing plants to flower them out of their normal season can wreck havoc on some plants. This might be the case here.
Had you watered it properly after bringing it home, it should have survived until you could have planted
it outside. After the funeral was the plant kept in a warm room or left in a car without heat?
But if it is wilting between waterings, how big of a pot was it in? How much water did you give it? Where did you grow it? We need a lot more details and photos if you could.
