Container Gardener Butterflies Echinacea Hummingbirder Roses Region: Texas
It held off raining so I went to the lecture. She had a lot of knowledge but strayed off topic a lot. The title was container gardening and I did learn two useful tips. Everyone might already know this, but if you have a pot with terra cotta inside and a nice glazed outside, over time the water will soak through the terra cotta part and cause the glaze to crack. She recommended putting a plastic bag inside the pot, sticking it through the drainage hole and cutting it open there to drain. That will protect the glazed part. I have one pot I noticed this happening too so that will save any future ones.
She also said when you plant in those coco liners, you should put one in the basket, put a piece of plastic in it with a few holes, then put another coco liner on top and plant in that. I'm going to give that one a try this weekend.
