@FrugalGramma I was interested in your comments about 5 pest deterrent plants. Which ones are you using? I'm all ears!

@Legalily I am using:

Dianthus: slugs
Catnip: flea beetles, ants, aphids
Nasturtiums: aphids, cabbage looper, cabbage worm, Colorado potato beetle, squash bug, Japanese beetle, Mexican bean beetle, striped pumpkin beetles, whitefly, cucumber beetles, flea beetles
Marigolds everywhere: squash bugs, cucumber beetles
Hyssop: slugs, cabbage moth larvae, cabbage butterflies
Tarragon: deterrent for many pests and enhances growth and flavor of crops grown with it (as does Chamomile).
Mint: cabbage root fly, ants, aphids, onion fly
Sedum: attracts predatory insects

Gardening is war!
