Dear and patient Lily friends! Here are the promised hybrid pics... Neil Jordan's auratum platyphyllum hybrid x 'Lankon', achieved via embryo rescue.
Neil displayed these two siblings from the cross at this year's NWTLS Latrobe Show, Tasmania. It may be hard to pick from my (not great) photos, but the ground colour of both flowers is a pale lavender, which apparently harks to the lankongense background and is otherwise not possible from the L. auratum. Hopefully you can see the shortened pedicels and their placement from the longiflorum background. Lots of potential to be drawn from these plants and other OOLAs, I think, if the vigour of longiflorum passes on to future generations but more grace and fascinating colour possibilities can be expressed from oriental and asiatic parents.
All kudos to the perseverance of Neil's breeding efforts!
