We just went through a horrible episode last winter with our dog eating some rodent poison at my parents' house. They put the rodent bait way back behind the cement steps that attach to their porch, where the ground squirrels were burrowing and causing the steps to pull away from the house. The rodents like to carry it around the yard, and somehow our sweet little beagle got it. Many of the rodent baits are scented like peanut butter, which is really attractive to dogs. She experienced internal bleeding and vomiting blood, and we almost lost her. We had to get her to the emergency vet clinic for immediate vit. K shots, and our next step would have been trying a blood transfusion. It was NOT a cheap experience, running up bills of nearly $3,000 by the time all was said and done. I will never use a poison bait, after that experience, regardless of how "safe" they claim it is for pets. Crying
