I have better luck with catmint than catnip. Both are in the Nepeta family, but the actual catnip variety is N. cataria and I assume this has much stronger allure to our feline friends. I do like to grow catnip, and will often place an empty wire basket around a new start until it gets established. Some cats are just fierce about rolling it to death and/or eating it. The catnip has a stronger, coarser smell to me. Do you know what variety you planted?
