I'm looking for maybe some different tomatoes to try...in August, maybe? I figure our first frost is usually around the first week in November so maybe a fall crop? Big Grin

Are you growing in straight composted manure or do you mix it with other ingredients?

Yeah, down here in Luverne I've heard a few bumps in the clouds and even had a few drops fall...but just mostly humidity and some heat, no rain. Looking at the radar it looks like a rain storm just missed my garden ( a few miles west of Luverne). It really didn't need it, though. Some sunshine would be nice, but I know you and olhippie could use some more.

WARNING!!! Professional cook here, get your pencil and paper ready to take notes!!!!!!!! nodding
Ham and cheese pie... Take two tortilla slices...the round bread that comes in the plastic bags in stacks of 10 or 12 pieces...I ain't sure what they're called, I just grab a bag at the grocery store that's about the right size which is about eight or nine inches in diameter. On one piece of the bread smear a nice but not too thick layer of mayonaise then dribble some spicy mustard all over it and stir to mix. Now take enough sliced, processed ham out for two people (in case you have company) and lay it over the mustard/mayo mix. To keep the pie healthy add a couple of pieces of low-fat processed turkey. Rolling my eyes. Every blue moon I might use sharp chedder but what I really like is a "loud" cheese, one that barks at you. Currently I'm using a Dubliner cheese that I buy at Costco...not overly loud, a whitish, somewhat crumbly cheese. The store brand Comte cheese is good to, just LOUDER. nodding Be sure to use enough cheese...using to little will make for an unhappy pie. Now slice up some tomatoes and lay over the meat...again making sure to cover the cheese and meat thoroughly. Now, the meats have plenty of salt in them but the tomatoes don't so grab the salt shaker and put some salt on the tomatoes. Then, pepper...there is tomatoes in the pie, without pepper you might as well throw it out to the wolverines and let them eat it, but they won't eat them without pepper, either, being as I've never spotted one eating an un-peppered pie here...but, alas, I've always had pepper on mine so I've never thrown one out. Now is the decision of how to cook it. If you are pressed for time or just plain starving then stick it in the microwave, set it at 50% and cook it for 3-4 minutes (I think). I you aren't about to pass out from hunger and you don't have to meet your parole officer in 20 minutes then put some butter in a skillet and grill that baby up a bit...makes the bread crispier. Drooling When done just hope nobody comes by that you have to share with and just sit there and groan with pleasure when you're through...have a big glass of tea, coke, water, prune juice, whatever your choice is because you're not gonna want to get up anytime soon. Note, do use a bib as the tomatoes can be kind of drippy (but good!!!). Oh, and when you go to your cardio doctor just don't mention this.... Note #2, this pie may be habit forming. Note #3, don't forget the salt and pepper!!! Ham and cheese pie..... nodding
