I stretch the hose out from the fountain to where I want the water to run, then pull up a few feet to form a loop and fill it with water, then put your thumb over the open end to keep the water from running out until you stick it in the fountain water, then drop the loop on the ground, it may take a little practice, but it works great. I let the water run out on the grass.
