Hello everyone, I'm new here. (But I've been lurking for a few months now.) Your beautiful photos and helpful advice have been so inspiring and have renewed my iris addiction to a fever pitch. My first step was just to convince my hubby to till a small area for me to move the increase from the last couple of years. I have a very bad back, so I'm limited in what I can do myself.
But then I began to learn about these different vendors and I made a few (hundred) visits to their websites. And someone had posted these gorgeous photos where the irises so beautifully blended into the landscape. . .
So I decided it would not be enough to just add an iris bed - it needed to be a full perennial bed. And I needed more irises and more space. So we expanded the new bed:
Then I stewed and stewed over my orders to fill the new bed and came up with this.
Iris Sisters:
Imbroglio (Keppel)
Hold my Hand (Blyth)
Haunted Heart (Keppel)
Sutton's:
Aleutian Island (Sutton)
Roaring Twenties (Keppel)
Noble Gesture (Keppel)
Fashionista (Blyth)
Schreiner's:
Stairway to Heaven (Lauer)
Open Sea (Keppel)
Legerdemain(Keppel)
Dusky Challenger
Titan's Glory (Schreiner)
Already I know I'm running out of room, but I figured, hey, we'll see which ones do we'll here and then move to the vegetable garden if we have to.
But then, Jubilee had their sale. And they're only an hour from me, so if irises are doing well for them, then those are probably ones that have a good chance for me, right? So I ordered the following from Jubilee:
Badlands (Schreiner)
Breakers (Schreiner)
Frosty Moonscape
Cheesecake (Gaulter)
Magnificent Masterpiece ( Nicodemus)
Merchant Marine (Keppel)
Poet's Rhyme (Keppel)
Stairway to Heaven (might as well have two since it's the one that started all this)
Swingtown (yea!! I used to have this, but think it has died out. My cats might have something to do with that, not sure)
Tango to the Moonlight
Thornbird
Wintry Sky
And a few daylilies too.
So my sweet hubby tilled up more of the front yard.
And finally my first box arrived!! (From Jubilee)
I set out the rhizomes Friday night, but then a windstorm came through and uprooted most of them.
I put them back in the box and will set them out again as soon as their new home is not a muddy mess. I'll be waiting on pins and needles for the rest to come in and especially to see their first blooms!!
