Harold,
I have 30 baby Amaryllis I started Dec. 2017 from seeds from one of the swaps on this website. A member's dad made the crosses. I'm going to have to find homes for them when they outgrow my winter basement space, because they are good to zone 7, but I'm in 6a.
Regarding starting Hibiscus, my home crosses of fancy hybrids had about 50% germination. However, seeds off our seed swap gave 87 of 100 from one member, and 47 of 50 from another. I gave away about 200 baby hibiscuses this year! I'm trying to get as many hooked as possible, Jackie.
The scratch and soak (warm water) method works well for germination. Once a seed swells and sinks, plant it, and expect babies in 5-7 days.
