Yes, I rip out huge amounts of it several times a year. I used to have the feathery umbrella type but got sick of it sending runners everywhere and composted it. This one shades a couple of orchids I have on a log in there so I leave that batch, it's in a large concrete pot but it sends roots over the side all the time.
A day without sunshine is like, you know, night.
