Like others said, there are different methods for preparing and growing iris seeds. Here's my process:

Collect seed pods and dry out seeds for 2 days in bowls with labels so not to confuse which is which. Then they go into labeled tiny Manila envelopes. After everything is collected for the season, I put the envelopes into the fridge for 2 months. All seeds are then soaked over a period of 3 days with water changes once a day. Then they get planted into individual pots per cross and kept inside all winter on a plant rack in front of a window to get sun, watering once a week. The following late spring/early summer they are planted directly into the ground. Because of my move this year the seedlings are still in pots, but doing very well. It's a labor of love but very fun! Some crosses germinate better than others.
