Went to the Farmer's Market in the City of Falls Church on Saturday to buy mushrooms. I found several recipes of crispy fried mushrooms in the Indonesian blogs. Seems to be popular there. I do not have bread flour so I used the recipe that used all purpose. It was not a success. I will not make it again. It could be just fried flour and corn starch, I could not taste the mushroom at all---what a waste of money and energy--- Last week Friday I took off, needed batteries for my hearing aids. I went afterwards to my newly found The Swiss Bakery store on Braddock Rd, about 4 miles away from me. They opened in 2007 but for some reason I had never heard of it until the beginning of this October. I wanted to get their special French onion soup, but they were already sold out, so I ordered their Octoberfest sausages special. For $16.00 I had 2 regular size sausages and 2 skinny ones (Nuernberger sausages). The regular ones were Bratwurst and Knockwurst, plus 2x2" crunchy porkbelly. Served with roast potatoes and sauerkraut. The pork belly that I got was 100 fat, no meat at all, very crunchy and melt in your mouth fat. That Schlachtplatte was so rich I made 3 meals out of it. I could only finish about 1/3 there, and took the rest home. Oh, they also added a nice crunchy Broetchen with butter! I still have to have their onion soup. Only on Fridays. Location at right at the exit of Braddock Rd. West on 495.
