I do woody plant cuttings in the fall, I have not done much swapping of cuttings, but I do it occasionally.
I find lots of shrubs I can take cuttings from at this time of year, put them covered in my cold frame, and in the spring they have rooted. I also do some houseplants (just made cuttings from my lipstick plant). This stays in the kitchen.
Like bxncbx, I do seeds swaps on this website. It is not too late for you to join Dogs and Daylilies DnDs All Seeds Swap #5 (look for Seeds Swaps in the dropdown list above called Tools & Apps). "Dogs and Daylilies" is a member who volunteers to run this swap. There are already 49 people in this swap! It is for All Seeds, there are tomato lovers and native plant collectors and plenty of petunias too. Today I gathered seeds from a Katsura Tree in a friend's yard. This keeps us busy in the fall. You can put seeds in that you collected, or buy some and share. It is tons of fun and a huge learning experience too. Last year I got over 100 packets of seeds. You only have to put in 3 seed packets to join, and pay to mail them to her, and less than $8 for her to mail you your seeds.
Not sure if it works well in Kentucky, but many people also do "Winter Sowing" of perennial plant seeds in December (later works in the frosty northern states). It is a nice way to get things planted when you are not so busy in the garden. It works for plants that want a cold moist conditioning period (often called stratification) in order for the seeds to sprout.
