The legs seem bee-like, although there are plenty of bee mimics in the insect world ("you don't want to bother
me, I could sting you!"). I found a brief page detailing some of them by googling "bee mimics."

I'm not claiming an ID here at all, just to suggest your ugly bug could be a bee... look at this photo of one of the "cellophane bees."
