Since orchid roots require oxygen to survive, they could never adapt to wet and soggy conditions! A new bark mix will produce excellent results. Patience, after repotting new roots will be produced typically in 6-8 weeks. They will grow quickly so that typically the plant will look a whole lot better with a 10-12 week period.
Forcing them to live in a soggy mix is no good for any orchid. Phalaenopsis love repotting and most growers suggest repotting every two years. Mine are repotted yearly in the Spring.
Keep lighting the same, no direct sun but just bright and no fans. They do not have to adapt to new media, they just need time to heal and recover from the neglect that they suffered in the soggy mix.
As an aside, I use a bark mix that I pre-moisten in a kitchen colander by rinsing it with lukewarm water. It gets the dust out of the mix, relaxes the 'surface tension' of the bark and makes it easier for it to hold moisture quicker than if you pot dry.
