First of all, no soaking!! Orchid roots need air around them to survive. Otherwise if kept too wet, the roots drown and die. By soaking it twice essentially what you did is ask the roots to hold their breath for 15 minutes at a time. Not once but twice.
You could very well have killed the roots by drowning them.
Proper watering features watering the plant well by letting the water pour out of the bottom drainage hole/holes. Then you wait say 4 days in the warm weather before you water again. You wait maybe 5 to 7 days before you water again in the cooler months. Watering day schedule depends upon type of container, media type and size of pot.
There is no need to stick a finger into the media.
They may suffer a little setback when repotted by they quickly come around. Quickly is not overnight. They usually produce new roots 4-6 weeks after repotting, maybe as long as two months after.
Depending upon how many roots were alive at the time of the repotting can make a huge difference. With few live roots you can't water as often as you might with a larger root system. With a large amount of live roots at repotting you can water normally.
