I just posted this message in the "What's New for 2019" thread because it dealt with purchasing a daylily for the spring, but I now realize I probably should have posted it here because it mostly deals with seed auctions. So I've copied it and will go ahead and post it below.

I've been watching these WACKY WEDNESDAY x EXPLOSION IN THE PAINT FACTORY and the reverse cross seed auctions by Michelle (Mmbrickner) that Mike pointed out, and I can't help but wonder why the seeds with WACKY WEDNESDAY as the pod parent is up to something like $147 now but the seeds for EXPLOSION IN THE PAINT FACTORY x WACKY WEDNESDAY ( which was posted and ends sooner) are only at around $27. Is it something about which one is the pod parent that makes the difference -- will the offspring maybe resemble the pod parent more and that makes it so much more valuable? Hmmm...

So she posted another auction of EXPLOSION IN THE PAINT FACTORY x WACKY WEDNESDAY yesterday, and I decided to bid on it -- and so far I'm the bidder (Anotheririslady) on top -- but my max bid is not very high at all and I expect to be outbid any time now. I just wanted to see how long it takes to be outbid, and there are something like twelve days to go...

But if anyone here wants to outbid me on it, please feel free -- because last night I went nuts again and contacted Rich at CT Daylily about purchasing a SF of EXPLOSION IN THE PAINT FACTORY, which he has available for $100, and he wrote me back this morning to let me know he has one for me so I bought it. I already have a plant of WACKY WEDNESDAY coming in the spring, and I just couldn't resist the thought of making that cross myself - what fun! - although EITPF is a dormant and I don't have much luck with most of those in my climate, so I was very hesitant to make the leap. But curiosity won out!

I had searched in the closed auctions to see what other people have paid for seeds from crosses of those two daylilies, either way, and was amazed to find that our own James (JWWC) sold one in the fall for over $200 -- well done James! Thumbs up

So it will be interesting to continue following Lily Auction seed sales of these two incredible striped daylilies, and thank you Mike for calling our attention to it! Thank You!
Betty
